A grant is a sum of money that is gifted to someone for a specific purpose. For example, a grant might be awarded to a student so that the student can pay for tuition, books and other education-related costs. Grants are also known as awards or gift aid. Why You Need Grants Grants the best way to pay for college or business school. Unlike students loans, which can create a significant financial burden during and after school, grants do not need to be paid back. Getting Grants for School Students can receive grants from a variety of sources, including private organizations, educational institutions, professional associations, and federal and state governments.à Grants may be awarded based on a studentââ¬â¢s financial need, ethnicity, religious affiliation, record of achievement, association or special interests. Education Grants From the Federal Government There are many different types of grants awarded by the federal government. Lets explore a few of the best grants for school. Federal Pell Grantââ¬âFederal Pell Grants are the most common grants awarded by the federal government. These grants are primarily designed for students who have not yet earned a bachelors degree. In other words, they are for undergraduate students. However, these grants might also be available to students in aà postbaccalaureate teacher certification program.à Federal Pell Grants are need-based; they are meant to help low-income students pay for school. Grant amounts vary by individual and are dependent on the cost of education and the students expected family contribution (EFC).Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grantââ¬âThe federal government gives schools money through the FSEOG Program each year. These funds are then distributed by the school to financially-needy students. That means that FSEOG grants are campus-based aid. Not every school participates in this federal program, and the funds are usually available on a first-come, first-served based. Students w ho get FSEOG grants typically have a very low EFC and are usually Federal Pell Grant recipients. The amount of the award varies but usually falls somewhere between $100 and $4,000. Education Grants From the State Government Grants for school are also awarded at the state level. Each state has a different way of acquiring and distributing financial aid. Many states fund their programs with taxes and lottery earnings. State-based grants are usually designed to be spent at in-state schools, but again, rules vary by state. Some examples of state grant programs include the Pennsylvania State Grant Program, which is a need-based program that awards aid on a sliding scale based on annual income, and Cal Grants, a California-based program that awards aid to students who attend school at least half-time and falls underà income and asset ceilings. Education Grants From Other Sources Federal and state governments arent the only groups who award grants for school. Nearly all colleges and universities have some type of grant program for students who can demonstrate financial need. You should speak with your schools financial aid office to learn more about grant availability and application procedures.à You may also be able to receive merit-based grants from professional associations, corporations, and other groups who have formal and informal programs for students seeking education funds.à How to Apply for Grants The application procedure for grants varies depending on the organization. To apply for federal grants, you need to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year you plan to attend school. Some states also award grants based on information supplied in the FAFSA form. However, application rules for each state vary. Contact your states Department of Education to learn more about application procedures.

In Anthony Burgessââ¬â¢ 1962 dystopian novella, A Clockwork Orange, teenage gangs and hoodlums run rampid in a futuristic society, inflicting mayhem and brutality among its totalitarian governed state. Alex, our protagonist/anti-hero, is among the most infamous in this violent youth culture. A psychotic, yet devilishly intelligent boy of fifteen, our ââ¬Å"humble narratorâ⬠beats up on old folk, rapes underaged girls, pillages, and leads his group of ââ¬Å"droogsâ⬠(friends) on a chaotic path of ââ¬Å"ultra-violence.â⬠With this society of citizens completely oblivious to the acts of such culture, the government offers to step in with a solution. After being jailed for the most heinous crime of murder, Alex volunteers for a procedure - offered by the governmentâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In turn, he uses this justification to senselessly beat a man up for simply not liking him. This could be supported by a quote from an article about the study of free will vs determinism, which states, ââ¬Å"freedom to choose fits comfortably with the assumption that people deserve what they getâ⬠(Carey 133). Alex could agree that someone of his own violent nature deserves this moment, or that the man deserved the beating. However, in a critical essay by Rubin Rabinovitz, it is argued that this expression of ââ¬Å"do what you wantâ⬠attitude is just as mechanically determined. By dictating a lifestyle based around this preconceived mentality, Alex is already subjecting himself to a controlled fate by following this youth culture (Rabinovitz). ââ¬Å"Whatââ¬â¢s it going to be then,â⬠starts the 2nd part of the novella, focussing on Alexââ¬â¢s incarceration and eventual treatment (77). Here, he is given a choice to remain the same and rot in prison, or find a way to change himself to ensure his freedom. The irony in this decision is when he opts to the latter option, Alex is - unknowingly - surrendering his freedom for an even grea ter state of determinism. Enter the Ludovico Treatment - a process which forces Alex to view a series of films while strapped down, eyelids peeled open, as heââ¬â¢s given a special sedative. The films, consisting of violent

The importance of ethics in business has become a bigger focus both nationally and globally. Due to high profile cases of unethical behavior in the housing and securities sector, we have seen a complete institutionalization of business ethics in the workplace. At minimum, this includes mandatory requirements, core practices, and strict punishments for violators. Within this idea and practice of Business Ethics, is the ethical framework of Corporate Social Responsibility. This idea suggests that companies have an obligation to act in such a way that it benefits society at large. This idea works best when a company takes a positive and voluntary approach. In many cases, we see companies struggle with having a positive impact on society, while also growing profits. This is truer for smaller businesses, who may have limited resources and maximum profitability is needed to stay afloat. We are going to explore a similar dilemma that Company Q is facing. Company Q is a small grocery chain that has recently experienced a significant downsizing. They were approached by a local food bank requesting donations of day-old products. Management has chosen to decline due to concerns of possible loss of revenue. They felt this would lead to employee theft or misconduct; employees taking the food home in the guise of donating. We create a lifestyle for our customers that none of our competitors can. The demographics of Crossfitters vary. This is a truly universal program that can apply from anyone who is very young (Crossfit Kids) to people of an older age. The program can be modified and scaled as needed to help people from all walks of life achieve their fitness goals. -add generic competitive strategy. The competition: The competition within Penticton could come from 6 other gyms. These gyms are the traditional style gyms with large amounts of machines and equipment that have many classes listed within the prices. An all inclusive pass at the gym such as City Center costs 150 dollars a month for all classes. Prices are in the similar range for other private gym studios that provide a range of services such as Pilates, Yoga and boot camp style workouts, the only studio of this kind that exists is the Riverside Fitness and health center. The major strength of a these facilities is that they are able to appeal to many people who are into getting into relatively good shape. A studio such as Riverside Fitness does not have this same advantage. They do have an advantage that they appeal to a large amount of people for a premium price. The weaknesses a big facility such as City Center is that it is large and no one really knows each other and is anonymous. Another weakness is the amount of commitment. If someone signs up to a gym like City center they must sign a year in advance. Under the Crossfit business model, the market gap it fills is for people who are tired of going to big box gyms and having to work their way through lots of equipment, or wait their turn on the machine. Crossfit gyms allow people to feel a part of a community that has the same goals as they do, and not be as committed to it. Essentially the market gap it fills is the one that is reserved for people in really good shape who want to continue to improve their conditioning without the hassle of going to a big box gym and waiting their turn on a machine. Crossfit style gyms attract these people and work as a marketing tool to help promote the particular affiliate and spread the gymââ¬â¢s effectiveness through word of mouth. Since there is no other affiliate in Penticton, it is safe to say that building on the prescribed Crossfit promotion strategies. This type of training appeals to people from all walks of life who are looking to join a fitness community, one of the biggest strengths of the program. Promotional Strategy: The main and most important factor in having a successful affiliate is creating a strong crossfit community for all who work out in the gym. That is how the promotional strategies should be used. Tools for such work are various and should be focused on making people want to join a community of like minded people who are committed to living a healthy lifestyle and enjoying a quality of life. The great thing about promoting crossfit is that none of the regular promotion strategies are ones that would really apply to using the model as a way of getting people interested. Community builidng cannot be put onto a fancy flyer or catchy ad. The community must be built inside the gym as well as have a profile within the community. These two things will lead to people who are members of the gym spreading the word about our affiliate and getting their friends to join the gym. Since this would be a startup, it would be important to create awareness of what crossfit is and why it is done. The effort would have to be made to arrange to demonstrate to people how the program can change their approach to fitness. This could be done by finding people and friends that are in good shape to go out and work out with them. Get them to try the crossfit methodology and see how they feel. The second approach would be to get as much documentation as possible about crossfit topics and create a blog. Using a blog can be fun and write about various topics associated with the crossfit lifestyle, post pictures of friends and family. The use of the internet does not just stop there. The video sites such as youtube and social media sites such as Youtube and Facebook should also be used to create awareness about the methodology. Show people on youtube and tell them what you posted. Start a Crossfit group and invite all of the friends you have worked out with there and get them to join. From there tag a lot of them in pictures doing workouts and allow them to show their friends what they are doing. They will feel proud and honored by you taking the time to show everyone what you are doing. This will help get those first 5-10 clients that are so needed in order to start the word of mouth process needed to help make the client list grow. These close first few clients are the ones that will attract like minded people to the affiliate and help it grow. Secondly, create awareness in different sports about this form of athletic training. If there are races that are being run or marathons, create a team and join under the crossfit affiliate name to be used on the uniform races. Thirdly, do not fear the competition. Help them and get them to help you by doing cross promotional advertising of each otherââ¬â¢s services. Some good places are yoga studios or any other type of smaller gym that could use some of their services to have a complete workout. This will also create the image that you are trying to build a community within the area you are serving. It is also another great referral system to gain clients. In conclusion it can be summed up like this. Show people what crossfit is and it will attract attention. By showing those who embrace the crossfit brand that you appreciate them and care about their welfare and show them they are a part of your training community, they will be a part of your training community. Those clients that are retained become ambassadors for the affiliate. This is better advertising and sustainable promotion that pays for itself.

Love In 20th Century Love in 20th century is entirely different from when Marie De France lived. In her time, she wrote a sweet story of two women who love the same man, Eliduc. He leaves his wife, Guildeluec to go fight in another country even though she is devastated by his decision. During his excursion he ends up with a younger woman named Guilliadun. The two fall madly in love. Ultimately, Guildeluec detects the affair and behaves with not a shread of jealousy or desire for revenge. The way she tells the story is surprisingly peaceful considering Eliduc lies to both women. However, my version of Eliduc, is written in 2000 mode. The society has metamorphosed into a chaotic blend of moral dysfunction. Many are unwilling to mend broken relationships. Instead, they choose to lie, cheat and deceive those who have been faithful and true to them. The repercussions of these betrayals are far more nauseating than Guildeluec's reaction to Eliduc's affair. Beware, if you loved Marie's version this might be too intense for some readers. First, the names of the characters are a bit more modern than the monograms Marie used. Now, Eliduc is called Eli, Guildeluec is Gail and Guilliadun is Jill. Here is how the story goes in 2000. Eli and Gail were together all through high school. They eventually got married because their love had grown into a bond of true friendship and love. The two-shared happiness but Eli would focus the majority of his time on his career. Gail accepted Eli's ambition and never really gave him trouble about it. She had enough to do between work and home. Besides, Eli was a good policeman. He always took pride in his work and the chief always favored him. He treated him special. One day Eli came home from work exasperated because some of the other guys on the force were jealous of Eli. He told Gail "they told the chief I sell and use drugs!" "I can't believe this, now the chief wants me gone." Gail said, "oh sweetheart, we can work this out. Things will be fine. We have enough money with my salary at the hospital to last us until the chief comes around. I could even ask some of the other nurses if I can pick up another shift" Eli answered, "I am going away for a while. I got a job offer in the South. Gail shrieks, "what do you mean? You know I can't leave this hospital because of my contract. You're just going to take off on me?" He says, "I love my work and if that bastard does not appreciate my services; I'm going elsewhere. I'm sorry because I know this will be hard on us but I promise I will be true to you, Gail. I love you." "I guess there is nothing I can say to change your mind", she says. "I'll be here when you're ready to come home. I love you too." Gail sobbed as she walked away, not because Eli was abandoning her but the feeling in her stomach felt inexplicable. For some reason she sensed a disastrous situation coming. Gail yearned for the ache to go away, but it lingered for weeks. Eli arrived in the South and the new chief had not recalled talking to him about the job. Aggravated, Eli told him "I will go to another city and fight their drug war if you don't want me." The chief welcomed Eli because the city had an immense drug problem. Suddenly, the alarm sounded in the station! There was an emergency; a riot had broken out in a dangerous section of the city. There was a shortage of officers on duty. Eli jumped in a cruiser and sped off to find the violators. At the scene, blood was everywhere. People were screaming and crying. The protestors were spewing vulgarities at the policemen. Eli witnessed two officers go down, and many of the other cops hesitated to break up the chaos. Eli took action and planned a route to raid the rioters. It worked. Eli attacked the leader; scrambled, fought, and clubbed the drug dealer until he was under Eli's control. Since Eli apprehended one of the biggest drug dealers in the city, everyone on the force praised him. Actually, the chief was so happy he wanted to celebrate that night by having a party. There were numerous people at the party. Eli met what felt like a million people, but only one face stuck

Recruiting or Retaining Essays Recruiting or Retaining Essay Recruiting or Retaining Essay CASE: WHICH IS MORE IMPORTANT aâ⠬ââ¬Å" RECRUITING OR RETAINING? G. K Electronics Ltd. , is a pioneering and internationally reputed firm in the Electronics industry. It is one of the largest firms in the country. It attracted employees from internationally reputed institutes and industries by offering high salaries, perks etc. It has advertised for the position of an Electronics Engineer recently. Nearly 150 candidates working in various electronics firms applied for the job. Mr. Sashidhar, an Electronics Engineering Graduate from IIT with 5 years working experience in a small electronics firm was selected from among the 130 candidates who took tests and interview. The interview board recommended an enhancement in his salary by Rs. 500 per month more than his present salary at his request. Mr. Sashidhar was very happy to achieve this and he was congratulated by a number of people including his previous employer for his brilliant interview performance and good luck. Mr. Sashidhar joined G. K. Electronics Ltd. on 21st January, 1996 with a great enthusiasm. He also found his job to be quite comfortable and challenging one and he felt it was highly prestigious to work with this company during the formative years of his career. He found his superiors as well as subordinates to be friendly and cooperative. But this climate did not live long. After one year of his service, he slowly learnt about a number of unpleasant stories about the company, management, the super ior-subordinate relations, rate of employee turnover, especially at higher level. But he decided to stay on as he promised several things to the management in the interview. He wanted to please and change the attitude of management through diligent performance, firm commitment and dedication. He started maximizing his contributions and management got the impression that Mr. Sashidhar has settled down and will remain in the company. After sometime, the superiors started riding over Mr. Sashidhar. He was overloaded with multifarious jobs. His freedom in deciding and executing was cut down to size. He was ill-treated on a number of occasions before his subordinates. His colleagues also started assigning their responsibilities to Mr. Sashidhar. Consequently there were imbalances in his family life, social life and organization life. But he seemed to be calm and contented. Management felt that Mr. Sashidhar had the potential to hear with many more organization responsibilities. It was quite surprising to the General Manager to see the resignation letter of Mr. Sashidhar along with a check equivalent to a monthaâ⠬â⠢s salary one fine morning on 18th January, 1998. The General Manager failed to convince Mr. Sashidhar to withdraw his resignation. The General Manager relieved him on 25th January, 1998. The General Manager wanted to appoint a committee to go into the matter immediately, but dropped the idea later. The inference from the above is very clear. The management had no strategy of retaining capable employees by giving them proper treatment and responsibilities. They also have not laid out any HR policy of defining area of responsibility for executives or staff. It appears any body in the firm can pass any work to their colleagues and even management is also not bothered about over loading a capable person willing to undertake challenging tasks with responsibility. If the above defects can be corrected by the management and senior managers they can retain capable managers or executives and the manpower turnover may come down and the companyaâ⠬â⠢s reputation with regards to human resources will go up. The firm can attract more and more capable personnel.

Sustainable management futures - Essay Example 86). When Prime Minister says that ââ¬Å"no true conservative wants to sit back and let capitalism ripâ⬠, he is making a contradictory and incorrect statement. The main premise of capitalism is to ensure that the government sits back and ââ¬Å"let it ripâ⬠. Whenever the government intervenes, not only it distorts the market equilibrium but it also ensures that the public sector grows larger in size, as compared to the private sector. There are no doubt in the fact that the resources in the market are limited, in terms of human and financial capital, and when these resources are devoted to the public sector, which is the inefficient sector, economies fail to realize their economic potential (Bishop, 2000, p. 86). More importantly, when governments intervene and prohibit capitalism from ââ¬Å"letting it ripâ⬠, it is creating a cost on all parties with its intervention. Quite understandably, governments would have to finance their power and intervention with two possib le sources. First, it would tax people to fund the intervention, something that violates the basic principles of liberty and freedom and decreases the disposable incomes of people, which then goes on limit the number and size of investments (Isbister, 2011, p. 76). More importantly, as mentioned earlier, the public sector is the inefficient sector, therefore, the amount of taxes are never able to generate returns what they should have generated had they been transferred to the private. Furthermore, as governments accumulate more money though taxes, they see more incentives and opportunities for corruption. Second, the governments might decide to print more money for financing these interventions and ââ¬Å"preventing capitalism from rippingâ⬠(Aras & Crowther, 2010, p. 67-68). Injecting more liquidity in the market might boost the demand in the short term but in the medium term, it will increase the inflation, which is disastrous to any economy. The cash reserves, savings and c apital of people would hold lesser value than they did before thus depriving people to buy the same amount of goods and services that they intended to buy with their money since it would hold lesser value. It would decrease the disposable incomes of people, which would reduce the savings. Reduction in savings would mean reduction in the overall capital, which is available in the market thus discouraging future investments and economic growth. Consider the example of how under the Bush Administration, the Federal Reserve Chairman, Alan Greenspan, although, a libertarian decided not to ââ¬Å"let capitalismâ⬠ripâ⬠and intervene by disturbing the equilibrium of the market. In the wake of the dotcom bubble and 9/11 attacks, he decided to set the interest rates at a record low level of 1 percent so that capitalism and free markets could not ââ¬Å"ripâ⬠investments due to the above mentioned events. It appeared that the strategy worked, as investors went on to invest in m ore risky projects and sectors, which would not have received investment had the interest rates been determined by market. Too many investments in the housing market created a housing bubble, which then
